Repairing Outlook PST file in case of abrupt MS Outlook 2002 crash

Are you using MS Word as the default email editor for MS Outlook 2002? If yes, then chances are that you may be facing abrupt Outlook crash every now and then. This repeated Outlook crash, at times, can corrupt the Outlook PST file. In such cases, you should look to resolve the issue by solving the MS Word problem. However, if the issue is not resolved then you should use a third-party PST repair tool to repair Outlook PST file.

Consider a scenario wherein you want to send an email message using MS Outlook 2002. You change the message type from HTML to RTF, compose the message, and then send the message. However, Outlook crashes when you try to send it. An error message is displayed, as a result, that is:

“Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. To see what data this error report contains, click here.”

When you view the error signature in the error report, it displays the following error report:

“OAER: Outlook Quits Unexpectedly After You Send a Message by Using Word Mail”

There could be the following reasons for such strange behavior of MS Outlook 2002:
• You are using MS Word 2002 as the default e-mail editor for MS Outlook 2002. Thus, there could be some bugs in the current version of the MS Word 2002, which are causing it to crash abruptly.
• The PST file integrated with Outlook has corrupted, which is causing it to crash abruptly, and repeatedly.

Resolution:

To resolve such situation, you should perform the following methods:

• Upgrade MS Word version: You should upgrade the version of MS Word 2002 using a hotfix available on the Internet.
• Remove MS Word as the default editor for Outlook: You should remove MS Word as the default e-mail editor for Outlook using the following steps:
◦ Click Tools | Options | Mail Format.
◦ Clear the selected 'Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages' check box.
◦ Close the 'Mail Format' dialog box.

However, if you still are facing the similar problems while sending the emails, it means that the PST file is corrupt. In such cases, you should use the in-built Inbox Repair (Scanpst.exe) tool. It is used to repair the index of PST file and rebuild its headers. Restart Outlook and try to send an email message. The problem would be resolved by now.

However, if the problem is still there then you should use a third-party Outlook repair utility to repair PST file. Such PST file repair tools are read-only in nature that do not overwrite the existing PST while scanning it.

MS Outlook 2002 shows unexpected behaviour when you print e-mail?

The XPrint ActiveXControl and XPrint add-in allow you to print Outlook forms as they appear on the screen i.e. what you see is what you get (WYSIWYG). You can use the control and add-in separately or both at the same time. But, at times when you print and close an e-mail message, Microsoft Outlook might quit unexpectedly with an error message. This problem can arise due to incompatibility issues between the add-in/control and your Outlook version. Meanwhile, if you make repeated attempts to reopen the Outlook account and it exits abruptly, you might end up corrupting your PST file.

In such situations, you can rely on an inbuilt utility namely the Inbox Repair Tool (Scanpst.exe). And, if this tool doesn't help you in removing errors from your corrupt PST file, then it is advised you get hold of an advanced yet reliable PST repair software.

Consider a scenario, wherein, you are using Microsoft Outlook 2002. When you print an e-mail message and then close it, your Outlook might behave strangely or quit unexpectedly. Additionally, you will receive the following error message:

"Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

You may receive the above said error message if you have both the Outlook 2000 XPrint ActiveX Control and the XPrint Add-in installed on your system. Microsoft doesn't support the use of Outlook 2000 XPrint ActiveX Control and the XPrint Add-in with the later versions of Outlook 2000. This means that the error has its roots in the incompatibility issue between the XPrint ActiveX Control, XPrint Add-in and Outlook 2002 version.

Moreover, when you repeatedly make attempts to print a specific mail and Outlook closes unexpectedly, the PST file of your Outlook account gets corrupt. In such situations, it becomes essential for you to consider effective Outlook PST repair steps.

How to Solve the Problem ?

You can eliminate the incompatibility issue by removing or turning off the XPrint Add-in option. To do this, execute the following steps:

• On the Tools menu, click Options.
• On the Other tab, click Advanced Options.
• In the Advanced Options dialog box, click Add-In Manager.
• Click to clear the XPrint Add-in check box
• If the above-mentioned steps do not help you isolate the issue, it signifies that your PST file is corrupt. Use the Scanpst.exe and get a corruption-free copy of your PST file.

However, if issues still plague your PST files and Outlook account, then go for a third-party PST repair software.

The most comprehensive and safe software solution comes in the form of PST Repair tool which helps you to repair corrupt PST files in an efficient manner. Equipped with simple and graphical user interface this Outlook PST repair application works well for both technical and non-technical users. It supports Outlook 2010, 2007, 2003, 2002, and 2000.
